What tax is payable on my withdrawal benefit when I change jobs?
- If the benefit is left in the fund, no tax is payable.
- If the benefit is transferred to a new employer, no tax is payable if transferred to a pension and/or provident fund, a retirement annuity fund and/or pension preservation or provident preservation fund.
- Note that although the withdrawal benefit is taxable income in your hands, the amount transferred to another fund is tax-deductible and no tax is therefore payable.
- Tax is payable where the transfer is from a pension fund to a provident fund or a provident preservation fund.
